AI Call Agents Explained
Published
Voice based AI agents are a common sight now in companies that offer AI solutions.
Many businesses see good value in renting these services, but most come at a hidden cost.
The hidden cost: a lot of voice agent services are just wrappers. The company you rent from doesn't actually run the AI models, they just ask services like Chat GPT and speech models to do the work, while wrapping it under their own name.
That means your business data can be passing and possibly being stored not only by the company you're paying, but also by whatever AI provider they use behind the scenes.
How a voice agent works:
1) Speech to text model: turns the caller voice into text
2) Text generation model (LLM): creates the response
3) Text to speech model: speaks the response back to the caller
Bottom line
If you want a voice agent, you should understand where your data goes. A dedicated deployment is not the same thing as a wrapper subscription.
